Croatia is becoming known as the 'new Riviera', whilst retaining a

Croatia is ideally located as a key gateway to Western and Central Europe. It is roughly horseshoe shape with Slovenia and Hungary to the north and Italy to the west. To the west and south are Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro, both peaceful and independent countries of the former Yugoslavia. Croatia is much closer to the UK and Ireland than many people imagine. From London it is only 2 and a half hours flying time, three hours from Manchester and Birmingham and 3 and a half from Glasgow and Dublin.
The war ended over 10 years ago and once again it is becoming a popular destination for many Europeans with the big Britsh tour operators featuring Croatia in their summer programmes. Vistors have been pleasantly surprised to find how well organised Croatia is, with new roads, smart hotels, internet cafes and high quality restaurants.
With a fundamentally sound economy, linked first to the Deutschmark and later to the euro, the Croatian government has successfully rebuilt its country. The currency, the kuna, has been stable, inflation low, and unemployment has been contained.
