Hungary Property
Hungary has to be the best Eastern European destination available for
Westerners, offering all the amenities you would expect in a
sophisticated Western capital, with an added Magyar twist which
makes it truly unique – not for nothing is Budapest called the Paris
of Eastern Europe. Indeed, the impressive central railway station in
Budapest, (Nyugati Palyaudvar or ‘Western Station’) was designed by
the renowned Gustave Eiffel. People return again and again to sample
the wonderful wines, relax or revitalize in the myriad spas and take
romantic strolls through the wide, elegant boulevards of this fabulous
capital city.
Budapest of course tends to be the focus for most people’s taste of Hungary and for obvious reasons. It lies across one of the most beautiful stretches of the Danube River, on the one side Buda, which is the older, historic part of the city, with cobbled streets and beautiful medieval buildings, and on the other, Pest, which is the commercial centre, with its museums and churches.
However there is more to Hungary than Budapest. For the more energetic, there are some wonderful hikes and well-marked trails to get you right away from it all. The best place to experience the Hungarian outdoors is Lake Balaton, a popular holiday region which boasts fine sandy beaches. This massive lake is 77km long and is known as ‘Hungary’s Playground' with a variety of outdoor activities as well as a great nightlife for lovers of the beach lifestyle.
The cuisine in Hungary is strong and hearty – weight loss here is definitely not an option! Of course, when in Hungary, you have to try the traditional Hungarian goulash - a thick, spicy stew of potatoes and beef or pork. Street stalls are always great value for local food, serving such delicacies as corn, bean soup, chestnuts, crepes, fried fish, fruit, waffles and doughnuts.
Since Hungary joined the EU in 2004, there has never been a better time to invest. With a stable economy, wealth of facilities available to investors, as well as the foreign investment which is pouring in to the country, Hungary really is the ‘next big thing’ for either purely investment purposes or a great place for a holiday home.
