Costa Calida Property
The Costa Calida is situated in the south-east of the Iberian Peninsula in the province of Murcia. It is a popular travel destination for many Europeans whether for holidays or permanent residence. Its recent rise in popularity is due, amongst other things, to its accessibility with two international airports and efficient road and rail links. The region is blessed by a mild Mediterranean climate and has a wonderfully sunny climate with at least 315 days of sun per year.
Less well known than its more famous neighbours, the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca, which definitely works to its advantage. It is less crowded and more tranquil, which is attested to by the fact that the World Health Organisation declared it the cleanest and least polluted area in Spain.
It is unusual in that its northern section not only offers a choice of beaches, but also a choice of sea! There is of course the sparkling Mediterranean which runs along the 250 kilometres of pristine coastline. There is also the Mar Menor, literally the ‘Little Sea’. The Mar Menor is Europe’s largest salt water lagoon, over 170 square kilometres of shallow water. This area is favoured by families with small children due to its warm, shallow and salty waters – the extra salt providing extra buoyancy.
Another attraction of this region is the outstanding cuisine with a wide range of affordable local and international restaurants serving mouthwatering local produce. From the top class restaurants of Murcia to sleepy coastal fishing villages, fresh fish is a major speciality, but meat and rice dishes also feature prominently. Of course, there are also the ubiquitous tapas – small dishes which come in a huge variety, and are perfect for sharing with friends.
From the traditional to the modern, there is something to offer everyone in the Costa Calida, and with prices trailing far behind its more famous neighbours, there has never been a better time to look to this wonderful, varied region.
